Service Officer Info

The goal of our Post is to help Veterans and their families in any way we can.

Our Post now has  a VA-accredited Service Officer, Howard Whitehead.  He helps Veterans and surviving family members obtain their VA benefits.

  • You do NOT have to be a member of the American Legion to get help.
  • All services are provided free of charge.
  • All information given the PSO will be held in strictest confidence.

Also, see the Links Page  for possible resources and other information.

Sorry, Active Duty folks, we cannot intervene with your Command or your Service's processes and procedures in any way.

All in person meetings with the Service Officer are at the Post by appointment only.

If you are coming to talk about VA claims, especially new claims or appeals, be sure to bring as much of these documents as you can:

  • Your DD-214s for all service periods.
  • All prior VA correspondence.
  • All current and previous marriage certificates and divorce decrees for you and your spouse.
  • All birth certificates and/or adoption papers for all children.
  • All death certificates for deceased spouses and children.
  • Bank name, address, and routing number as well as your account number and type for direct deposit.

As always, assistance from the Service Officer is open to ALL Veterans and is FREE OF CHARGE.

Another option for help is to go to the weekly Claims Clinic meetup at VAMC Sousely (Leestown), Building 28, downstairs, every Friday starting at 8 am.  End time varies.  It is first-come-first-served and often quite busy so get there early.

If you are from outside our area and want help, our Service Officer can work with you remotely or you can find a VA-accredited Service Officer near you at:

https://www.va.gov/get-help-from-accredited-representative/find-rep/

ALWAYS use a fully VA-accredited Service Officer.  If someone tells you they are accredited, you can check by calling the VA at

1-800-827-1000

We're sorry, but we cannot meet at your home.

TO CONTACT THE SERVICE OFFICER:

  • Email kypost67so@gmail.com
  • Call 859-379-9340 (You may need to leave a message.)
  • See the bartender at the post and complete a "Claim Brief".  They will get it to the Service Officer who will get back to you.
