Service Officer Info

The goal of our Post is to help Veterans and their families in any way we can.

Our Post has a VA-accredited Veteran Service Officer (VSO), Howard Whitehead.  He helps Veterans and surviving family members obtain their VA benefits.

  • You do NOT have to be a member of the American Legion to get help although we would love to have you.
  • All services are provided free of charge.
  • All information given the VSO will be held in strictest confidence.

See our Links Page for other possible resources and information.

Sorry, Active Duty folks, we cannot intervene with your Command or your Service's processes and procedures in any way.

All meetings with the VSO are by appointment only and can be done in person at the Post or via phone or Google Meet.

If you are coming to talk about VA claims, especially new claims or appeals, please bring your DD-214s for all service periods and any and all prior VA correspndence youmay have.

Another option for help is to go to the weekly Claims Clinic meetup at VAMC Sousely (Leestown), Building 28, downstairs, every Tuesday and Friday  7:30 am to Noon.  It is first-come-first-served and often quite busy so get there early.

If you are from outside our area and want help, our VSO can work with you remotely by phone, Google Meet, and emails.   Otherwise, you can find a VA-accredited Service Officer nearer to you at:

https://www.va.gov/get-help-from-accredited-representative/find-rep/

ALWAYS use a fully VA-accredited Service Officer.  If someone tells you they are accredited, you can check by calling the VA at

1-800-827-1000.  NEVER pay someone to help you get your benefits!

Sorry, but we cannot meet at your home.

TO CONTACT THE VSO:

  • Email kypost67so@gmail.com
  • TEXT or call 859-379-9340 (Text is best.  You may need to leave a message if you call.)
  • See the bartender at the post and complete a "Claim Brief".  They will get it to the Service Officer who will get back to you.
