VSO Office Hours

Howard Whitehead is our PSO (Post Service Officer) as well as a fully VA-accredited DVSO (Department Veteran Service Officer), accreditation # 59616.  This means he has had, and continues to receive, training in VA claim policies, procedures, and best practices in preparing and filing claims and can submit paperwork directly to the VA.

Howard is available for walk-ins at the Woodford County Library on The fourth Thursday of each month

3:00 pm - 8:00 pm

The last person accepted at 7:00 pm

You will find him in one of the study rooms, usually #1, the one on the corner, on the 2nd floor of the Library Main Branch in downtown Versailles.  If you have questions about benefits or want to talk about claims, Legion membership, or whatever, come on by.

Otherwise, use the contact info below to make an appointment or you can see the bartender at Post 67 to complete a referral form (aka a claim brief) which they will get to the VSO who will get in touch with you.

The Next Office Day is October 23, 2025

If you are coming to talk about VA benefits and/or claims, be sure to bring as much of these as you can:

  • Your DD-214s for all service periods.
  • All prior VA correspondence.
  • All current and previous marriage certificates and divorce decrees for you and your spouse.
  • All birth certificates and/or adoption papers for all children.
  • All death certificates for spouse and children.
  • Bank account number and routing code for direcct deposit.

As always, this is open to all Veterans and is free of charge.

If you have an issue that cannot wait for the next office hours, please use the contact information below to reach Howard to make an appointment.

Another option is to go to the weekly Claims Clinic meetup at VAMC Sousely (Leestown), Building 28, downstairs, every Friday starting at 8 am.  End time varies and it is first-come-first-served so get there early.

We're sorry, but we cannot meet at your home.

The goal of our Post is to help Veterans and their families in any way we can, mainly by helping you find whatever resources you may need and/or helping with VA claims.

  • You do NOT have to be a member of the American Legion to get help.
  • All services provided are free of charge.
  • All information given the VSO will be held in strictest confidence.

Our Post also offers the limited use of our computer if you need one but don't have one.  Do you need to use VA's telehealth but don't have a computer?  Do you need to type, print, fax, or scan something or have another need for a computer?  If so, contact us at the Post and we can most liklely help you out by letting you use ours.

Also, see the Links Page  and our Servoce Officer sub-pages in the menu at the upper right for possible resources and other information.

Sorry, Active Duty folks, we cannot intervene with your Command or your Service's processes and procedures in any way.
