The deeds for the lot where our building now stands were traced back to the early 1870's. We are not certain when the current structure was built but all indcationsare that it was constructed in the mid-to-lat 1880's.
Post 67 was formed and chartered in 1923 and has been in continuous operation since. We were fully accepted into the national American Legion organization in 1924.
We acquired the North half of our current building in 1975 and the South half in 1977. Part of the wall between them was removed shortly after we got the second building, effectively making them one...but not one.
Our Post includes a chapter of the Ladies Auxiliary for the spouses, children, and grandchildren of veterans, male or female, and a squadron of the Sons of the Legion for sons and grandsons of veterans. There is also an organization called American Legion Riders made of of motorcycle-riding members of the Legion, the Sons, or the Auxiliary; but we do not have a chapter at our Post.
Our primary function is to support Veterans and Active Duty Military of all branches and their families as well as our members. Beyond that we also help the community through events, direct donations, and a variety of programs.
We offer a clubroom with reduced cost adult and soft beverages, snacks, pool table, dart board, juke box, 2 TVs, digital info sign, electronic and paper pulltabs, weekly "Find Old Glory" and 50/50 drawings and Bingo. We also have an occasional special raffle.
The adjoining meeting hall, named after Capt. William P. Black, is used for monthly meetings, weekly Bingo and a variety of regular and special events held throughout the year. It has a larger screen TV and is available to the members for private events at no charge, but a cleaning deposit is required. When not in use for other purposes it provides additional seating for the clubroom.
