Q. What does the PSO do?
A. Typically, the job of the PSO is to be the link between Veterans and their families and resources to help with their needs. Any help from the American Legion or any VA-accredited Service Officer, is free and open to ALL Veterans. You do NOT have to be a Legion member to get help
Q. What is an accredited SO?
A. An accredited SO is somone who is trained and accredited by the U.S. Dept of Veterans Affairs (The VA) in the VA claims submission and appeals processes. This is the person who will talk to you about completing the right forms the right way to have the best possible shot at getting the VA benefits you deserve.
At our post, our PSO is also an accredited SO.
Q. So I have to join the Legion to get help?
A. No, absolutely not! As much as we'd love to have you join us, no Veteran has to join the Legion as a condition of getting help.
Q. So what does it cost?
A. Nothing. Service Officers are not allowed to take any compensation of any kind for their work. Not even a cup of coffee.
