PSO/VSO Info

Q.  What does the PSO do?

A.  The job of the PSO is to be the link between Veterans and their families and resources to help with their needs.  Any help from the American Legion or any VA-accredited Service Officer, is free and open to ALL Veterans.  You do NOT have to be a Legion member to get help

When you contact the PSO, the first thing we will do is to just chat and see what your needs are.  Then we will decide what to do next.

If you need help with filing or appealing VA benefit claims, our PSO is also a VA-accredited Veteran Service Officer (VSO) and can advise and help you complete forms.  As a matter of Federal law, a non-accredited Service Officers are not allowed to do these things.  However, they can take down your information and forward it to a VSO who will follow up with you to help you further.

Q.  What is a VSO?

A.  The VSO (Veteran Service Officer) is somone who is trained and accredited by the U.S. Dept of Veterans Affairs (The VA) in the VA claims submission and appeals processes.   The VSO is the one who will talk to you about completing the right forms the right way to have the best possible shot at getting the VA benefits you deserve.

Q.  So I have to join the Legion to get help?

A.  No, absolutely not!  As much as we'd love to have you join us, no Veteran has to join the Legion as a condition of getting help.

Q.  So what does it cost?

A.  Nothing.  Service Officers are not allowed to take any compensation of any kind for their work.  Not even a cup of coffee.
